Owner-operator lease-on terms
Last updated: October 25, 2026
These are the terms every applicant receives by email the moment they apply. They are a summary; the binding document is the written lease agreement you sign with Hutchinson Enterprises LLC.
PAY
- Hutchinson Enterprises keeps 10% of the load's gross revenue; 90% is yours
- The rate is on the load confirmation before you accept it
- An itemized statement every Thursday
- Typical weekly gross of our owner-operators: $7,000–$14,000 (your 90%: $6,300–$12,600)
Example: on a $10,000 gross week, 90% = $9,000 before insurance, fuel and escrow. Rates vary with lanes, season and equipment; this is arithmetic, not a promise of income.
OPERATING AUTHORITY
You run under Hutchinson Enterprises LLC's MC authority. We carry the operating authority, insurance filings and compliance; you keep your equipment and your independence as a 1099 independent contractor.
DEDUCTIONS
- 10% of gross: the carrier's share
- Commercial liability insurance: we add you to our policy under our MC, the insurer sets your weekly premium, we pay the insurer and deduct that amount from your statement EVERY week, whether you are running, at home or in the shop. Physical damage coverage for your truck and trailer is your own policy, not through us
- Fuel: charged only when you fuel on our cards
- Escrow: $250 per week until $2,500
- Plates, IFTA, tolls and ELD can be fronted by Hutchinson Enterprises and deducted
Every deduction is listed line by line on the weekly statement.
FUEL CARD
We issue fuel cards to leased-on owner-operators. Fuel bought on the card is charged on your weekly statement; fuel bought elsewhere is not charged.
ESCROW
A $2,500 escrow is built gradually at $250 per week until the full amount is reached. It is refunded 30 days after the lease ends, provided there are no open broker claims, fines or other charges and all company equipment has been returned in good condition.
EQUIPMENT
- Class 8 semi truck with a sleeper (raised roof, mid roof or flat top), DOT-inspection ready
- Your own trailer, any type: dry van, reefer, flatbed, step deck, Conestoga, RGN / lowboy, tanker, hopper, car hauler
- We do not provide trucks and we do not rent trailers
REQUIREMENTS
- Valid CDL-A
- At least 2 years of verifiable OTR experience
- Clean MVR: no serious violations, no DUI, no recent preventable accidents
- Legal status and authorization to work in the US
- Willing to run OTR nationwide
- Professional communication with dispatch, shippers and brokers
DISPATCH
24/7 dispatch. No dedicated lanes, but steady freight; your preferred regions and home time go into the plan.
